I wrote my first story in 1959.
I had gotten into a fight on the way to school and the Vice-Principal learned about it.
He called me and others into his office.
He told us to write what happened and then he read each one out loud.
When we left the office, one of the kids said, "When Mr. Van Deest read yours, it was like watching TV. How did you do that?"
I replied, "I just wrote what I remembered."
